San Antonio-based Craig McMahon Architects completed this family’s seasonal retreat in San Marcos, Texas. Several built-in, high-lying sleeping areas and other functions accommodate many visitors. Two verandas booked the house: one points to a stream, the other to where the sun sets. Craig nodded to this architectural tradition with a barn-like palette of materials such as: B. galvanized metal and the exposed wooden rafters. In order to save space in the bedrooms, all closets and cupboards have been moved to the hallways. The interiors are rustic-modern and very cozy, with extensive use of local materials, reclaimed wood and some IKEA pieces.
