Tal Engel throws old ideas out of the window and takes inspiration from traditional boat building techniques. Otaku is a bathtub made from a pressed sheet of veneer held in place by a steel frame. The bathtub deals with the similarities between bathing and sailing – the relaxed states of mind that both evoke and the fact that both are functional entities that deal with water. The concept is based on the “inside-out” theory, in which washing in a tub is the opposite of a boat floating in water and therefore the inside of the tub becomes the outside of the boat. The result tries to highlight the special relationship between our body and water.
