Classic Irish Cottage

Classic Irish Cottage

Have you ever dreamed of living in a charming little Irish cottage? This white house with a red iron roof is an incarnation of such a beautiful house. It is located in the remote seaside town of Treangarrive, County Kerry, lost in a wilderness of emerald farmland and cloud-shrouded mountains. Let’s take a look.

What was once a humble refuge for local mountain goats has turned into a dreamy vacation home. New larch roof timbers were looked for from the forest behind the hut. The mud floor was pulled back and lime plastered, with furniture made from local Douglas fir. The whitewashed, rustic interior offers stylishly simple protection from the elements.

The dining room, living room and kitchen are connected to form an open space that is not large but very cozy: there are rough wooden beams and rough, whitewashed walls. Sitting next to the fire is the best place to see dramatic cloudscapes and moon shadows over Lake Caragh. The bedrooms are separated from this room and designed to be more private. I totally admire the master bedroom with the picture window – what better way to enjoy the view? The second bedroom sleeps two and has rustic vintage furniture and an antique fireplace that gives it that cool rustic feel.

Such a beautiful cottage with a pastoral landscape will be an amazing place to relax and forget about all the troubles and the peaceful surroundings will help in that.
