One of the latest lighting trends today are cage lamps, but not traditional ones: designers combine the usual industrial lamp with new materials, colors and finishes to create modern lights. Inspired by and named for Bluff City, Jonah Takagi’s industrial yet nifty Bluff City trailers combine a traditional trailer umbrella with a wire cage. The Tull lamp by Tommaso Caldera combines a household shade with an industrial cage lamp. The designer simply changed the colors, finishes and proportions to give the design a contemporary feel. Designed by Jake Phipps Tweetie is a playful pendant lamp inspired by birds and cages, which was produced in collaboration with the ceramic experts. While the birds are made of hand-painted black or 24-carat gold-plated ceramic, the frame consists of black-lacquered or gold-plated metal rods.
