Edenderry Shawl Pattern

A shoulder-hugging shawl features a longer wingspan, while maintaining a relatively shallow body. Wrap it around your shoulders, flip back the ends and the shawl literally hugs your shoulders. It will stay in place without the aid of a shawl pin. The cast on edge can be worn at the back (my favorite), at the front, or off to the side. An accessory to bring pizzazz to any wardrobe, it will look good anyway you wear it. Get ready for the compliments!

The longer wingspan is created by working multiple increases on every row. A simple and innovative edge treatment produces a straight and stretchy inside edge.

Edenderry is a crescent-shaped shawl, worked from the top down. Starting at the neck edge with a garter-tab, the body is worked in relaxed garter stitch. As you work your way down, increases are made on both sides. After the body is completed, the knitted-on lace edging is worked sideways to the body.

The shawl can easily be modified to your preferred size. Instructions for a shawl knit from one skein of Fingering weight yarn, a deeper shawl, or a shawl knit from a heavier weight yarn are included.

As a knitting instructor, I write my patterns as a teaching tool. This pattern is 8 pages of thoughtfully-written instructions that teach all the skills necessary to complete the shawl while answering your knitting questions along the way.
