Barcelona studio NOEM designed a home for a film director and science fiction fanatic that resembles a spaceship erected over its wooded grounds. The Spaceship Home is energy efficient, with natural ventilation and insulation in place of electrical systems where possible – and reflects the owner’s passion for science fiction cinema and home automation. A prefabricated construction of three wooden modules attached to a metal frame allowed the architects to build the spaceship house in their workshop and erect it in just two months. The interior continues the owner’s love for sci-fi: perforated metal walls backlit by LEDs that can be adjusted to emit any color of light. Green lights on the outside and a red light on the roof are reminiscent of the navigation lights on aircraft.
