Ali Cayne is a restaurant owner who moved into a townhouse in downtown Manhattan and took the opportunity to make it a warm and welcoming family home for her and her five children.
The focus of this house is of course the kitchen. The space is decorated in a mid-century modern style: there are gray cabinets with gold handles, subway tiles, and a gorgeous black and gold retro hood that accentuates the decor. The stove is also black and gold – yes, masterpieces are created on this piece! The kitchen island also serves as a breakfast room and is accentuated by a large pendant light.
The owner is very fond of Moroccan decor and patterns, so her small walk-in closet can come up with a cool Moroccan rug. The bedroom has a similar rug and dream catcher; I love the chalkboard headboard wall, it creates a bold statement and backdrop for this cool bedroom.
The living room is decorated in a traditional style with a bit of vintage. The color scheme is warm: beige, yellow, buttermilk, brown. Wooden floors clad with chevron, an antique fireplace, a large framed mirror and a sophisticated crystal chandelier create the impression of a French vintage salon.
The home office has a glass desk, a large note board with lots of photos and a console table with potted green. It’s airy, inspiring and invites you to do different things. There are also lots of shelves and a non-working fireplace creating an ambience. What a nice reading corner to curl up!
The bathroom continues the idea of mid-century modern decor with subway tiles and a black freestanding bathtub. The closet is also mid-century modern, the floors being the same chevron-clad wooden floors as in the other rooms.
