The rail table is an example of modern and trendy design by Belgian designer Alain Gilles. It is an extendable table with a transparent glass table top, which is held by two contrasting steel rails on a tie-like wooden frame. The tracks are basically the two parallel axes that define the logic of the piece and act as the path for the extensions. The table is a kind of discussion between visibility and invisibility, weight and weightlessness, cold and warm using a combination of very different materials that convey different and opposing feelings. Depending on how you perceive different structural elements of the table, each person will perceive them differently.
