With the advent of the 3D printer, design is booming as creating things is even easier than before. We are seeing more and more creations and parts made this way and they look amazing! Here’s a great example of how 3D printing can really help a designer be creative.
The LightCAGE lamp by designer Emmanuel Osorno is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of being a lampshade, it tries to lock light in an artificial 3D-printed prison. The unusual design of the PLA lamp is not only a pleasure, but also casts a kaleidoscope of shadows that decorate the room. However, it still casts a diffuse spot of light on the base so it can be both a functional and a decorative piece of light. The light is pretty relaxing, so hang it somewhere in your favorite corner where you enjoy spending time.
Such a lamp is great for any modern room or for mid-century modern spaces. It’s a way to make a statement with lighting and you will impress everyone with it. The apparently simple but interesting design and the neutral colors allow it to easily fit into almost any ambience.
The LightCAGE was awarded second place at the VModern Furniture Design Competition 2016.
