Carapace is a scientific term used to define a protective, decorative, or camouflaging shell that is placed on the back of animals such as beetles and turtles. This idea inspired the furniture series by Maarten Baas, which consists of an armchair, a desk, a cupboard, a small and wide cupboard. Each of these pieces is characterized by a patchwork of bronze coating that is spot welded piece by piece to form the skin. Conch shell that acts as a protective shield, similar to a turtle shell. Together, the pieces reflect the idea of protection in harmony with the beautiful. It is surrounded by a hard metal exterior, which consequently conveys the development of the very fine interior, in which treasures can hide.
