Multi Functional Floor Seat

Eastern and Western cultures differ significantly in our rest habits. Traditionally, Eastern culture can be viewed as ground-based and can sit and sleep on the ground. On the other hand, Western culture can be seen as the opposite, sitting on chairs and sleeping on beds. “Wa” by Ato Design Studio is a clever convergence of these two different cultural concepts that adapts to the preferred resting position of the user.

The simple design can be divided into three elements: a pillow for lying down, a floor seat with a backrest for relaxing or a classic chair for sitting upright. This unique multifunctionality is minimalist, but it blurs cultural boundaries and encourages user interaction, thereby strengthening the bond between people and objects. This functionality saves a lot of space and is an ideal item for modern nomads who like to move around and don’t want to carry too much furniture and things.
