Robert Downeys Windmill House

Historic DeRose Windmill House in the Hamptons is a beautiful property bought by Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan. When I heard these names I bet they did something really interesting and unique with them, and it turned out to be true! The Downeys hired designer Joe Nahem to make this house super moody and fun, and the whole project only took 6 weeks – you won’t believe this when you see it.

The entry reminds me of colorful paintings by Salvador Dali: colorful striped wallpaper, a strong blue ikat carpet, two crazy colorful works of art define the room. With two colorful and printed upholstered benches, a coffee table with a glass top and very interesting sculptures, they are even more emphasized – art occupies an important place in this house.

The living room has wooden beams on the ceiling that match the floor and stand out in a very bold space. The living room floor was lowered a few feet by a new fireplace wall by ceramic artist Peter Lane – this fireplace is a bold eye-catcher. The designer created a real conversation pit around the fireplace, and brightly colored pillows have been added to the bench, and some bold artwork complements the space.

The kitchen has a ceiling made of reclaimed wood and a very interesting tiled floor. There’s a breakfast room with a moody pink upholstered bench and some cute creamy chairs. The mint countertops and the rose gold pendant lights match the colorful floor.

The dining room is super moody! It’s done with warm textured wallpaper and very eye-catching sculptural furniture – a dining table with animal legs and a corrugated dresser with metallic details. I love the idea of adding turquoise accents here and there: They refresh the room and contrast yellow. Enjoy the pictures of this amazing home below!
