Table With Floating Old Wood

Combining two opposing things in one is art, especially when these two things look stunning and complement each other in one. Today we’re sharing a fantastic piece of furniture that mixes modern technology and ancient material, and when I say “old” I really mean it!

Riva 1920 presents classic pieces of furniture alongside new designs, none of which is more significant than with Kauri, an old wood from New Zealand. This quality shows the highest expression of authenticity and craftsmanship, regardless of which type of wood the Italian brand is interested in. The table top puts the 50,000-year-old Kauri wood in a resin frame, so that the material appears to float above the tube base designed by the architect Renzo Piano.

The Kauri continents of the Riva 1920 earth table reflect a stylized image of our world map and float in the transparent ocean of resin. The use of the formerly liquid substance creates a fascinating interplay of light and shadow. The top sits on a tubular base made of dark iron, the weld seam of which is clearly visible. Look at the photos of this beautiful table, it’s just amazing!
