This stunning Wooden Sphere furniture series by sculptor Lee Jae-Hyo is definitely as much art as it is functional objects. The series is created by shaping a solid composition of found wood into spherical shapes. Once the composition is complete, Lee burns the wood mass until it is completely blackened and charred. The third step is to buff the outside edges to expose the pale, natural wood inside while leaving the areas around each polished section black with charcoal. No two pieces are alike as each piece of wood found has its own grain and shape, meaning that the blackened voids are always unique, as is the story within the exposed natural grains of wood.
